Refashion it with an edge
So...
I've been seeing all these crochet edgings on linen sheet and pillows and whatnot and I just couldn't take it any more. I decided to make some myself.
So, yesterday I rummaged through my wardrobe in search for the tees that need a face lift and I selected this three for starters (you didn't actually think I could stop with only 3?) and was so engrossed in the crochet my husband had to ward off his wardrobe with a stick in sheer fear I might attempt crocheting edges on his shirts and tees... Eva was delighted and already selected which ones are to be "adorned".
I must say I love how they all turned out with exception of the lilac one because for that I used embroidery floss, very thin so the edge is tiny... I couldn't find the appropriate shade in my crochet yarn.
But this is not the end. There's more to come.
Beautiful detail. :)
ReplyDeleteOOH, I LIKE, no LOVE this idea. Did you sew a blanket stitch on first? What size thread and hook did you use? This is perfect!!
ReplyDeletex, Carol
the 3 of them look amazing!
ReplyDeleteand I love imagining your husband chasing you away from his wardrobe ;-)
What a great idea, Maya! I'd love to do this to some edge of something and the beauty is you can make them as intricate as you want right? So cool!
ReplyDeleteSo so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThank you all on the lovely comments!
ReplyDeleteI am not quite satisfied with the photos - we have been having showers and thunderstorms for a while now and inside it is as dark as a pit - no editing software could beat that!
Carol: I used the blanket stitch as the foundation for all three. I also employed different weight yarn since the brown one is cotton and I used heavier yarn (size: fine, mercerized, gas singed cotton, needle size 4 - 4,5), the yellow one is jersey with a lot of stretch so I used finer yarn (mercerized, combed and gas singed cotton, needle 2.5 mm), while for the lilac one I used 1.7,mm needle and embroidery floss.
very cute Maya....sday, I was trying to crochet a telephone mat, while thinking about the same adding crochet edges to my clothes...then as usual ran out of patience...but you are really good
ReplyDeleteI love these crochet edges! This post is so coincidental for me, before I saw your edges, I was thinking about you because at my local thrift shop I spotted a peasant blouse with red crochet edges around the neck and sleeves and wondered if you have ever added these sorts of embellishments. The stars are aligned! (and of course I snatched up the blouse).
ReplyDeletethese are so pretty, I need a project to work on while sitting on my backyard swing for the summer months... now to hunt up some appropriate threads, hooks and a large eye needle for the blanket stitch... Thanks for the inspiration...
ReplyDeleteThese are so pretty, Maya. I love this idea. My mother just gave me the book that she used to teach herself crochet years and years ago. I hope I get a chance to delve into it soon.
ReplyDeleteLove your shirt edgings! I am just learning to crochet and my passion is to learn flowers and edgings. This idea is fantastic. I have several shirts that for me are too low and this would sort of fill up the space. Are there directions for this technique? Or do you have a patttern or tutorial for sale? any type of "how to"?
ReplyDeleteGoing to take a second look at my shirts,LOL! Thank you for sharing your wonderful work!
LindaJ: Can you please contact me by mail? The access to your blog is not available. This refers to your question about the edgings.
