{The Ruffly Scarf Tutorial }
This is a super easy project for which you do not need any knitting / crocheting skills. All you need to know is how to use a sewing machine, because you will be sewing this cutie.
For the scarf shown in the photo I used 100 gr. of chunky yarn skein, and the yarn does need to be chunky so that the scarf can get an exquisite and rich (ruffled) look. My scarf is 1.50 m - 59.1" long but that depends on how close/tight you sew the yarn together. And it shoud be closely sewn.
First decide how wide you want the scarf to be, gather a small portion of yarn, hold it tight and sew through the center of it. Next and this is a bit tedious and requires good finger coordination, gather the yarn and push it under the feet but do not sew until you get a nice bulky part. Be careful to keep the same width throughout. Then gather another portion, and so on....until the end.
I said it is a bit slow and boring but you'll be finished in less than half an hour and this also makes a sweet gift without any knitting. When you get to the end back stitch it. It is good to make the scarf stronger (and I strongly recommend this) by stitching another row over the existing stitch.
Do not worry. The stitching is not going to show at all!I hope you like it. My daughter adores it!
What a gorgeous photo of your daughter, such a beautiful smile! The scarf is perfect and it looks so doable. I think I might have some appropriate yarn for this!
ReplyDeletePS I am not crazy about the new blogger, I am finding it difficult to navigate and my reading list is all messed up - it will certainly take some getting used to.
Ho how cute. That looks way easier than I thought. I might have to try that out. I looks great for a young girl. I think I'll pin that. Thanks so much for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteThat is so clever! I will definitely try that for a little girl I know will love it.
ReplyDeleteWonderful idea!
ReplyDeleteBookmarked for next Christmas presents!!! :)
That is such a brilliant idea with such wonderful results! Cool!!
ReplyDeletefantastic idea! and nice work at vanessa's blog! :) lisa
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is more beautiful every day!
ReplyDeleteAnd that is a fun scarf! I agree with RobyGiup it's a great idea for quick and charm gift!
About blogger...well I don't know ir I like it, but my laptop strugles. Some blogs become very difficult to comment, because the browser don't display the page!
Papgena, I have the same problem. Commenting is a nuisance. I have to refresh the page 2-3 times in order to get the comment box open. Incredible. And I don't also like the look and the organization of dashboard page. Chaotic!
ReplyDeleteI wish there was a button one could press to return to the old blogger! Maybe it was simpler, but waaay better!
What a fab scarf! I might have to try this. New blogger? I haven't noticed any difference...
ReplyDeleteCute scarf, thanks for sharing at Bacon Time.
ReplyDeleteHey I missed this one! Such a cute scarf. I like how simple it is to create. Thanks for the tutorial Maya!
ReplyDeleteI used this technique to make the main on the back of a hobby horse for my daughter. I never thought to use it to make a scarf! Yay! Now I can make a scarf from yarn even though I can't knit or crochet! :)
ReplyDeleteYour ruffly scarf is so beautiful, and I hope to be able to make some of these as gifts. I will get some yarn and give it a try, thank you for the directions. Your daughter is lovely!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!!
ReplyDeleteI love this..I'm so making some..Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMade this for Christmas Gifts..It was so easy & the look is fab. Thank You for sharing it really made me happy!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for Christmas gifts 2013...
DeleteJust a thought...but couldn't you add another decorative yarn to embellish the scarf even more? I love this idea and will definitely try it.
ReplyDeleteI love this and hope it is as easy as it seems. Can't wait to surprise my girls for winter 2013
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to try this, it will be a fun surprise for my girls this winter. I hope it is as easy as it seems.
ReplyDeleteI love this scarf and will add this page to my Squidoo teenage girls crafts article, Crafts For Teenage Girls.
ReplyDelete. I think this could be made a little simpler by laying the yarn on a long, narrow strip of paper. When the sewing was complete, just pull the strip of paper off, one side at a time. The needle holes in the paper makes a perforated strip that is easy to remove.
I love this idea and never would have thought of it. I have the perfect yarn. Thanks for the tutorial. ~ Abby
ReplyDeleteI loovvveeee this idea!! I want to make one of these great looking scarves for my daughter who knows how to knit!!! And maybe a few other special people! Thanks!!! I have it pinned on Pinterest...thanks again!
ReplyDeleteI love this scarf but am confused how long the length of yarn is that you use. Do you use the whole bundle? What is 1.5 cm? Thanks for any help you can provide!
ReplyDeleteHello, My name is Lisa and I also was wondering how much yarn to use? The finished product is 1.5 cm or is that the length of yarn you used? That's smaller than an inch so that must be the length of the yarn when folded to sew? Right?
ReplyDeleteI was wondering what length of total yarn you used to make this beautiful scarf? 1.5cm is the length of the folded yarn you sewed in the middle correct? Because an inch is bigger than a cm. Correct?
ReplyDeleteI don't remember how long was the yarn of that particular 100 grams skein, but the finished length of the scarf is 59.1 inches. Hope this helps.
