The first time I found about the mori girl fashion I was enchanted at first sight because it embodied my love for vintage and natural - handmade style, with a bit of ethno, a style built up on generous amount of laces, ribbons, flounces and layered clothes with a sprinkle of Gothic and Victorian soft and comfortable elements and fairy tales. The style is comfortable, loose and dreamy, often romantic and highly feminine.


The Mori is actually a Japanese street fashion. The term Mori girl ("mori" means "forest" in Japanese) is  used to describe a girl that dresses in (mainly) earth colors, that wears loose and girly dresses and layers.

The fabrics that distinguish this style beside  cotton and wool also incliude crochet, knit and fur pieces.

The colors of fall - pumpkin orange - Crocheted beauty

This piece is inspired by fall and the beautiful colors it uses to paint nature. I chose pumpkin orange as one of the expressive representatives of the palette .

I  used a vintage crochet pattern I am currently in love with, and adorned it with three different types of beads.

 

Recently I enriched my bead stash with lots of new colors and shapes, and now I can't wait to use them in the projects I've already sketched some designs for.

To celebrate its arrival, I made myself this fall inspired brooch for the bolero shown here which on its part, is experiencing some modifications. I have set myself into fall refashioning mode and started lengthening sweatshirts and pants 'cause the limbs of my offspring have grown during the summer. Have you created anything for the fall?

 

Vintage Treasure Hunt 2

 

Can you believe this?  Well, at first I couldn't. I haven't counted the embroidery threads and I don't intend to but I will have to sort them by colors because this is a real mess. Some of these were in boxes, while others were in bags with the name of the gobelin they belong to. There were a lot of them put on cardboard patches (see below) and all messed up which will require good nerves, a steady arm and lots of time to unravel them.

 

  

 

The amazing, embroidered tablecloth I talked about in my last post. I am sorry it is a bit wrinkled but it was taken out of the closet after who knows how much time.

Vintage Treasure Hunt

Today I have some beauties to show you. They all come from a very gifted and masterful lady who left a ton of embroidered gobelins and crocheted tablecloths and doilies. My husband's grandmother. She passed away this summer and left an interesting - craft related - heritage.

Her house was a little treasure vault. There were more than 15 large scale gobelins which must have taken years to complete. All her gobelins were from Wiehler and included mostly works of the old masters like Iphiginie, Young Couple in Spring, Girl at the Well, many of the landscapes and my favourite - The Shepherd's idyll.

My mother in law offered me to take anything from the craft supplies left, and when I saw what I was having I felt as being in heaven. This included yarn, floss, buttons, needles, gobelin schematics and adequate fabric, ribbons and million other whatnots. Hardcore crafters know what I mean. But I won't reveal everything in one post. When we went to her house I forgot to take my camera with me (wanted to kick myself later) so I took some photos with my husband's phone. If any of them prove to be worthy of seeing the day, I'll show them in my next post.

I inherited all the doilies shown here (and maybe I'll get some more if my mom in law doesn't take the others), there is a swooning, gorgeous , to die for embroidered tablecloth I am negotiating to win and embroidery floss. Lots of it. Like a heap - NO- like a mountain! I had to sit down when I opened the boxes and bags and saw all that beauty!! So, until next time!

Welcoming fall flower necklace

We've been witnessing a gradual drop of temperatures for the weekend and today I put my cardigan on for the first time in the last several months. I am a bit sad for the end of summer (when the school starts it seems like flying away) but I think I am ready for some warmer clothes and accessories. Maybe that's because I've been working on some woolen shrugs and cardigans and was completely immersed in fall/winter themes.

This neck piece was made using a variation of my favourite Irish rose and I really like the protruding petals which make this necklace to have a fabulous texture.

Granny collar

Here is a glimpse of one of the pieces I made for the Vintage Fall Collection.
It is inspired by granny squares which hold a special place in my heart, although it would be more precise to say granny triangles.

I love this collar because it can spruce up a plain dress or a cardigan. The real thing for bohemian souls.
While on the topic of granny squares I am in the process of choosing colors for a baby boy (due to see the world next week) granny blanket but I am having doubts selecting the "real" granny for the purpose. Check out my grannies here.

Tulle Carnation Necklace - Celebration!!

Welcome to a little celebration!
As you might have guessed from the title, we are celebrating the popularity of my fabric carnation tutorial, which was viewed 50.734 times!! I am not surprised because I have watched it grow and besides it is very easy to make yet very effective as a detail.


So, this time I am celebrating it by making a tulle carnation paired with some filigree leaves and blue beads. I couldn't resist the temptation and made a ring using a tiny carnation.

Crocheted reversible fringe necklace

Well, first things first.
Happy September to all!
I am a little sad August ended so quickly and that we will face fall soon.
The newest crochet in my shop is this necklace which was made for the Bloom collection, but it took me ages to take photos and post about it.
The fringes make it look adorable and the beauty of it is that it is reversible so it can be worn either on the green side or the blue one.

This week I vowed to finish at least four ongoing projects, but here is Tuesday half way through and I am at a standstill. It isn't easy juggling with two (three) jobs at the same time. Sometimes I wish I kick off the full time one. I wish...
