Now, I love the past and you all know my favourite historical period was the years from 1920s to 1950s if we exclude the Victorian era, and although I had a perfectly normal, ordinary and quite happy child/teenagehood, I am not particularly fond of the 80s nor nostalgic about it to be honest, although I thought that would change over the years. I shudder at the thought of hairstyles and clothes being popular then - not all, mind you. The interior design - cringe, cringe....But, as a vintage lover, there were things that I loved seeing once again, and now let me take you on a short tour!
The Museum is on the first floor of an old building in the historical part of the city - on Radićeva Street. It shows a replica of a flat and the everyday life in Zagreb in former Yugoslavia 80s and it represents a unique and interactive way that vividly portrays the past, the way of life and heritage, memories and emotions.
The living room
The Museum is completely interactive - you can put on music on the turntables, play the tape recorder, put on some 80s clothes, play games, type on the typewriter... Even get into the Fiat that greets you at the entrance.

I hope you enjoyed the tour!
That is so funny! Lovely to see! I was born in 1980 so I've got more memories of the 90's, but still there are lots of things in your pictures which made me smile :-)
ReplyDeleteIsn't it interesting Sigrid?
DeleteI think the photos are going to bring global memories back :)
I'm not a fan of the 80s -- not sure I could have teased my bangs any higher back then. 1980-84 were my high school years and I married my high school (not so) sweetheart in 1987 (we divorced in 1991). The museum is very interesting, though, especially that it's interactive. I'm more of a 70s gal when it comes to music and fashion ... it's come full circle more than once I think. :) Thanks for sharing your lovely trip. I hope one day to get to that corner of the world.
ReplyDeleteIt was a pleasure Tammy! I know what you mean. Visiting Croatia is truly worth and you would be immensely impressed.
DeleteHow odd - the apparment really has a late 60s, rather 70s feeling if you ask me. Might that be because of the diffrences between (luckily now former) Eastern and Western Europe? But truth be told: I remember fashion and hairstyles from back then more, than I remember typical furniture of the 80s. Was there any? The appartment though remembers me more of the house of my grandparents (who definitely bought their last bits of furniture somewhere in the 70s).
ReplyDeleteWell the decades kind of transcend, but the feeling is steady. I do remember us or others having most of the things in the flat (my grandma had the same exact clock for one thing) and as far as global memories are concerned, it was fun listening to the other tourists commenting and having flash backs.
DeleteA fascinating tour down memory lane, Maya. Too much brown, orange and mustard for my liking and then there were the shoulder pads....yikes!! The little yellow car is cute though.
ReplyDeleteJeez, I forgot the shoulder pads...worst fashion trend ever!
DeleteCome on, Maya, it's not that bad! I'm a 70s child too so I'm often nostalgic of the innocent and analogical 80s. Hairstyles aside —cringes as well— home decor, games and brownish clothes were fun. A home where an old LP of ABBA is cannot be a bad place. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this tour, I have never heard of a museum like this before and I really enjoyed it.
Oh, I am glad you did Alhana! And no. It was not that bad :)
DeleteWow, what a cool museum! Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm!
ReplyDeleteLVOE that floor lamp! Thanks for sharing at the To Grandma's house we go link party!
ReplyDeleteLoved the tour Maya, it brought back so many memories. Just like you I was also a teenager in the 80's and all I remember is big poofey hair, leg warmers and shoulder pads. Why on earth did we want to walk around looking like military drop outs :D
ReplyDeleteHaha.. true! This was a great memories flashback on a global level. It resonated with so many people.
