DIY: Summer Earrings

This past year, I've been seeing this trend of different earrings of a set growing more and more and all the earrings for my latest collection are made following that trend.

I made a wee tutorial to spark inspiration if you are inclined to get busy for the weekend. It is insane how fast these could be done with what you already have at hand.

So, for these earrings I used:

1) a crochet circle (pattern given below)
2) 2 chains (5 cm each)
3) jump rings
4) metal (filigree bead) + metal tray (I used a leaf)
5) variety of pearl, glass and plastic beads and'
6) earring hooks

Crochet circle made with sport yarn and 1.9mm hook.
Ch 6 and join to make a circle.
Round 1: sc6 in circle.
Round 2:ch 2, sc in next st. Sl st to end round. There should be 6 chains.
Round 3: ch 3, sc in next st.Sl st to end round. (6  chains to the end of all rounds)
Round 4: ch 4, sc in next st.Sl st to end round.Work tail.

I sewed the leaf and a glass bead onto the circle. Then I attached a trio of pearl beads below. Next, attached the chain in the center (at the edge) of the circle and also attached various beads onto the chain. Added the earring hook last.

For the other earring , I attached the metal bead onto the hook, added the butterfly onto which I attached a beaded chain. Now, for the second earring I think adding a remarkable bead for effect is the right thing, so you can play with your beads and see what works for you.

See, it was easy as 1,2,3. Hope you like this!

"Sophia" - Crochet Top

Hi everyone!
Meet Sophia, another top of the Modest Debonair collection.

Sophia features a lovely shell stitch pattern with lace edging and crochet buttons which I personally believe give  a special touch to it and emphasize the vintage feel I tried to add to this piece.

The pattern for this one is underway and I cannot wait to finish it!

Here's "Olivia" if you somehow missed it.

Tapestry Crochet Queen - Molla Mills

Important: This is an affiliate post. If you buy through any of the links in this post, I will earn a percentage from The Sewing Box Magazine.

Tapestry crochet has many names. It is sometimes called jacquard crochet, intarsia, mosaic, fair isle, and colorwork, but today these terms usually describe different techniques. Since the yarns are switched back and forth to create motifs, tapestry crochet pieces look more like they were woven on a loom than crocheted with a hook.

One designer that has masterful creations employing this type of crochet is the Finnish pioneer of modern crochet - Molla Mills.

Molla found the world of handicrafts when she was a kid. Her carpenter father showed her how to do woodwork, and her mother, who made all kinds of crafts from upcycling to bead work, let Molla use her sewing machine to make clothes at the age of 13. Molla's grandma, a very talented seamstress, always made sure that the seams were straight in Molla's self made creations. Being surrounded by DIY lifestyle the future was clear; Molla had to learn more, make more and eventually teach all this to others.

She is winning the world with her hypnotizing and mesmerizing geometrical patterns.

If you like Molla's work, follow her amazing adventures in crochet on instagram.

Frida Kahlo Bag

Guys, here's my new bag!
I am absolutely delighted with it!

When I got the idea for it, I dropped down everything I was working on at the time and literally made it in an evening - the bag that is. I changed the applique a couple of times to be honest, mainly messing around the hair because I just couldn't crochet it the way I saw it in my head - I am talking about the flowing hair. However, I am excited it turned out fantastic in the end.

I used a soft cotton ribbon yarn for it - paid it dearly and saved it for a bag I wanted to make myself, something that would be dreamy and boho and chic and I guess I did made that happen :)

Although we have several years of industry experience, our project was launched in 2014. Since then our publications have been growing in personality, quality and distribution, thanks to the connections we have established with our readers.
However, our mission is to provide useful information related to the world of design and creativity from a fresh point of view and dynamic.
Our readers are mostly women between the ages of 25 and 55, who are interested in the world of design, fashion, and making handmade pieces for commercial purposes.

Are you creative? Inquisitive? Do you love hand-making? Do you dream of being a professional designer? Then dont miss out!

It includes the favorite techniques of any craft-lover: amigurumi, crochet, Tunisian, knitting, macramé, weaving, embroidery, sewing, and much more. There are more than 100 projects, DIYs and patterns  that will bring out your most creative side.

Crochet Oya Headband - free pattern

Hello all!
I have a cute weekend project for you today - an oya lariat / headband that you can whip up in minutes.

Materials:
1. Crochet thread #10
2. Metal hook 1.7 mm
3. Seed beads (amount depends on length of the lariat)

1.First thread the beads onto the thread. I always say better have too many, then run out of them. I used 20.
(You can use more beads in the space between 2 flowers - I used just 1)

2. Start with the flower.
The pattern goes like this: ch 4 and sl st in the very 1st st. Next tr3 in that 1st st and lastly ch 5 and sl st (also in the 1st st). One petal is made. Push a bead and sc over it. Repeat the above pattern for the next petal. When the second petal is done, sl st once in the 1st st of the first petal - do so with the other petals too. There should be 4.

3. Chain 15, push a bead, chain 15 more. Start a new flower. Repeat flower pattern. Work this until you reach desired length. Finish the headband with a flower.

You can make it with sport yarn too, but the crochet thread makes it extra delicate and feminine.

Enjoy it!

Venice - The Queen of the Adriatic

Venice is the City of Masks, the City of Bridges, the City of Water, the Floating City. It bears all names proudly because it is the Queen. Fascinating, dignified, divine, mesmerizing....

Combining business with pleasure, we stole  a couple of days  from our schedule to explore it and we only managed to scrape just a tiny portion of it, but just enough to have it imprint a strong stamp on our hearts!

A view from Rialto Bridge overlooking the Grand Canal.

No matter what one reads about the city, the minute you enter it, you are under a spell. The intertwining bridges take you to its heart, where you can feel the pulse and the rhythm of the city, soaking its dreamlike architecture, art-filled palaces and palpable history. The picturesque, gondolas-filled canals make you feel as if in an old-fashioned movie, gliding smoothly under the bridges, taking breaths away.

What may diminish your pleasure and enjoyment is the invasion of tourists especially at St.Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco) cradling the iconic St.Mark's Basilica which is enthrallingly grandiose. Standing in front of it as well as inside, one finds himself at loss for words. I wish we had come there early in the morning to witness its beauty in quiet and solitude.

We didn't want to say goodbye at the end of the day, but we hope to be blessed to see this pearl again!

 Bella Venezia!
Until we meet again!
