Venice is the City of Masks, the City of Bridges, the City of Water, the Floating City. It bears all names proudly because it is the Queen. Fascinating, dignified, divine, mesmerizing....
Combining business with pleasure, we stole a couple of days from our schedule to explore it and we only managed to scrape just a tiny portion of it, but just enough to have it imprint a strong stamp on our hearts!

No matter what one reads about the city, the minute you enter it, you are under a spell. The intertwining bridges take you to its heart, where you can feel the pulse and the rhythm of the city, soaking its dreamlike architecture, art-filled palaces and palpable history. The picturesque, gondolas-filled canals make you feel as if in an old-fashioned movie, gliding smoothly under the bridges, taking breaths away.
What may diminish your pleasure and enjoyment is the invasion of tourists especially at St.Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco) cradling the iconic St.Mark's Basilica which is enthrallingly grandiose. Standing in front of it as well as inside, one finds himself at loss for words. I wish we had come there early in the morning to witness its beauty in quiet and solitude.
We didn't want to say goodbye at the end of the day, but we hope to be blessed to see this pearl again!

DeleteVenice is one of my favorite places to visit. I love it too but hate all the crowds of tourist too. We went to the Lido beach just to get away from the crowds in Venice. I hope to return some day and enjoyed looking at your photos.
ReplyDeleteI understand why Julie! One day we went browsing through the streets around 5 in the afternoon and it was less crowded and we were actually able to enjoy walking around and have a spritz without any disturbance.

DeleteYour glorious photos and fabulous words capture the excitement, beauty and romance of this jewel of a city, Maya. All the photos are stunning, especially the one with those glorious buildings' reflections in the water. Yes, you will have to return, especially to explore the grandeur of St Mark's Basilica for a longer time. I can just imagine the glorious photo shoots that could be enjoyed in Venice......though what to do with all the tourists. Thank you for sharing the beauty of this city.

Beautiful! I just love old cities. And by old, I mean like the ones in Europe and other places. So much history and character. I'm happy there are places where time stands still where the architecture is concerned. I'm not a fan of the modern aesthetic.
