Happy weekend guys! Today I have the perfect weekend project for you!
The crochet community has been charmed with these wind spinners, and I readily jumped on the bandwagon and made some for my nieces and nephews.
Now, before we begin with the pattern, I want to say that the spinners in these pictures are quite short (foundation: 31 chains) and are taken as an example.
To make an effective spinner, you have to have a foundation of at least 50 chains (more are recommended).
Important: The pattern is for personal use only. All property rights belong to Maya Kuzman of The Little Treasures.
What you need:
*sport yarn in 3 colors and a 3mm hook.
* tapestry needle for weaving ends
* (optional: beads, tassels, etc.)
Used stitches in American terminology: chain (ch), stitches (st.), slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc), double crochet (dc).
Foundation and row 1: (leave a long tail) In color A, ch71 and starting from 2nd st. sc1 in all stitches across (70). Cut yarn and leave a long tail. Do not turn work.
Row 2: with crochet work face up, insert color B in 1st st.,ch3 (counts as the 1st dc) and dc1 again in same stitch. Dc2 in next and all remain stitches of the row (140).
Cut yarn and leave a long tail. Do not turn work. The work is already shaping up.
Cut yarn and leave a long tail. Do not turn work. The work is already shaping up.
Row 3: with crochet work face up, insert color C in foundation row, ch10 and sl st in the 1st st of the second row. You can skip adding the loop, which is for hanging purposes and start crocheting right into row 2. Ch3 (counts as the 1st dc) and dc1 in the same st. Dc2 in next and all remain stitches of the row (280).This is also optional. You can cut yarn and weave the row 3 tail here, or sl st to get to the foundation row, cut yarn with a long tail (as I did).
What do you guys think? Have you made any or are you inspired to make your first one?
I was immensely inspired by the shape so I made some cute necklaces, but I'll show you those some other time.
Have a nice weekend!
I see a possibility to make earrings whit this pattern, by using very fine yarn ...
ReplyDeleteOh, yes!. I tried that too. The earringgs are fab!
DeleteOMG these are super cute! I can see how they would look spinning in the breeze! Love love love!!!
ReplyDeleteThank youuu! I gifted some to my little nephew and enjoyed his happy screams every time they spinned :)
DeleteI used to make tiny dolls from short spinners. These are fab! I am going to make huge ones for my porch!!
DeleteHow fun your crochet wind spinners are, Maya and fabulously colourful, too. I can see so many ways these could be used.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim!
DeleteI am going to make one!
ReplyDeleteYou are going to love them! :)
DeleteThank you Maya - I'm definitely making some of these!!
ReplyDeleteWould lobe to see how they turn out, Kate!
DeleteThose look like a fun little make. Just saw some colorful plastic beads at my local school supply store. Might have to get some and make these with the colorful yarn I bought. :)
ReplyDeleteYou are going to love them Tammy!

DeleteYour gorgeous spinners make me happy! I have to make some.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration,
Kippi
Thank you, Kippi!
DeleteHi,just saw this post and I immediately thought about window decorations for my (smallish) livingroom. But then someone mentioned earrings... Maybe I'll skip the decorations, the cats will anyway think it's for their benefit!
ReplyDeleteWe've already made some earrings and they are great! If you try them, I heartily recommend using thread. They will be gorgeous!
DeleteI believe that I'm gonna have to make some for my camping buddy
ReplyDeleteThe camping buddy will be happy with these, I am sure!
DeleteHow wide would these spinners be?
ReplyDeleteAbout 2-3 cm.
DeleteCan I ask how you hang this? Do I need a swivel attachment? Id so, where do I attach it?
ReplyDeleteHi! The tutorial shows how to make a loop at the upper end so you can insert it onto a branch if you aim to hang it outside, or simply insert a thread through that loop and tie it wherever you want it hung.
DeleteJ’en ai fait plusieurs mais elles ne tournent pas.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that. Maybe the yarn is too heavy and it pulls/ weighs it down. Also, maye try making the neck/tie longer and without the loop. I cannot think of anything more ...
