A Farewell Necklace and a Dress

I had this sateen bought to make curtains and actually I did but the fortunate fabric was destined to lead a short life as curtains and it turned to a more glorified lifestyle of a dress. This is actually the commonly known "pillow case" dress, but I think the name "Farewell Dress" is more suitable, romantic and a little bit mysterious name for a dress which has had such fortunate turn of events. It bid farewell to its old lifestyle!



I also made this beautiful necklace for my shop using a piece of vintage embroidery.

A bolero or a cowl?

Both! It's great. I have never had a silk or organza bolero (I had a cotton one years back) and suddenly seeing them everywhere I had an urge to make one. So I did.

This one ties at the back with the ribbon but I didn't manage to get good pictures. I'll leave that for next time. While playing with it in front of the mirror and trying out garments to wear it with I realized that it can also be worn as a cowl.

I also decided to make a new one, but this time I am going to try and make it a little less wide, to see what the effect shall be. And of course I'll use a bit sturdier organza.

Happy Birthday!!!

It's my birthday today! Another year has gone by... so quietly and so fast... Yet, I am not sad. It has been a wonderful year, and I wish this one to be even better.

is the name of this cute top I made with two lovely vintage scarves.

A rapsody in purple

Here it is....my rapsody in purple. One of the organza fabrics was put to a good use. I made a kaftan-like overdress and a lilac tube dress decorated with a belt. I think it would be an excellent choice for the fall trip to Tunisia.

I also used my newest necklace for this photo shoot, but I'll leave that for another post.

Pink bliss pendant

I immensely enjoyed the time spent making this pendant and I love how it turned out. While making my fabric brooches and pendants I always say that it's the same as with the box of chocolates (you surely know the saying) - I never know what it would grow into in the end. Of course I work with a draft drawing - but I love experimenting and usually the draft is just a starting point.

However, this little beauty has found a new home.

Lacey checkered blouse

Yesterday I finally decided what lace was most suitable for this blouse and sewed it as an embelishment to it. I think I chose right. The lace is perfect.

White, a bit thick, cotton lace elaborated in great detail.

So, romantic... so vintage....

A touch of organza

What is with this diaphanous, ethereal and dazzling fabric that makes me think of the sun-baked Orient, the cobble-stone streets and the hidden gardens in full bloom...

Lately I have been obssessed with organza. My favourite shop was swarmed with organza in every possible colour... Who could resist?? I certainly couldn't. I plan to make myself a long dress combining two of these. Still working on the design though (one of my favourite phases in creating).

Celestal teardrops

This necklace has been waiting for so long to be finished so today I added the chain and 'voila'. The 'Celestal teardrops' necklace saw the light of day. Thankfully. Here are some pics:

Mermaid jewels

I finally photographed my woollen jewels necklace that has been ready for a couple of months now. I named the necklace Mermaid jewels since the colour reminds me of the deep, crystal clear ocean bed craddling the kingdom of the mermaids. It is made with my woollen jewels this time in a light bluish-greenish hue, embelished with beads in green/silver colour.

Dragon queen dress

I have had this fabric for years. Sitting in the corner of the closet, waiting patiently to see the light of day. I always thought it was dreadful but never articulated my thoughts since it was a gift and - of course- I know my manners.
Now, when this ugly duckling of a fabric has transformed into a lovely swan I take back everything I thought earlier. It has turned out great - except for the front part. The pattern I used required a front zipper. A front zipper on a saten? No thank you. So I left it without a zipper. However, it turned out that it does not close well and it seems as if my bust is yawning. After thinking it for a while I believe that it's the frog closure it is missing. Yes, and it fits perfectly with the design of the dress. So frog closure it's going to be!

Fairy cocoons
