How to read crochet charts: A flower motif

If you remember the crochet tunics I posted about here, then you must have noticed this gorgeousness.

Well I decided to tackle the chart for the motif and see how it goes. And to tell you the truth, the pattern is fantastic - it works up fast and beautifully.

Here's the translation of the chart:

Chain 5 and join to make ring.
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as the 1st dc) and make 11 dc in ring. Sl st to join. (12)

Round 2: Chain 5 (3 as the 1st dc and 2 as the chain) and dc over the dc from previous row. "Ch 2 and dc over the dc from previous row". Repeat from "to" to complete the round. You end it making 2 chains.  Sl st (with beginning chain) to join.

Round 3: Chain 4, "make 3 dc in chain (from previous row), ch 1 (over the dc from previous row)" and repeat from "to ". You end the round making 2dc and not 3 because the beginning chain is counted as a dc. Sl st to join.

Round 4: Chain 4 and "sc in the beginning chain from the row below, ch 1, sk 1 st, make 1 dc in the next, ch 2, sk st and make another dc in the next one ch 1" and repeat from "to".
End the round by making just 1 dc over the first finishing dc of the row below. Ch 2 and sl st to join.

Round 5: Chain 3 and make 3 dc in the space you just made by chaining 2 at the end of the previous row.

ch 1, sc 1 (over the sc of previous row), ch 1, and in the next space make 4dc, ch2 and 4dc (fan pattern).

ch 1, sc 1, ch 1 and repeat the fan pattern around.

When it's time to make the very last fan - remember that you made half a fan at the beginning, so now just make 4 dc in the same space as the beginning half, ch 2 and sl st to join it with the other half.

And that is it. Cut yarn, tie know and weave ends.

I hope you like the pattern and put it to good use.

Embroidered Necklace - DIY

To make this beautiful necklace I was inspired by Macedonian rich traditional costumes and embroidery.

Macedonian folk costumes have a centuries-long tradition. They are part of the material culture of the Macedonian people and an important branch of the national artistic creation.

In the past, the peasant woman in particular, was the one who created the costumes starting from dyeing the yarn, weaving it into coarse cotton cloths and tightly woven wool yarn and cloths, sewing the parts of clothing and decorating it with rich embroidery.

How to make this necklace:

1. In making this fabric necklace you will need printed fabric. I chose a colorful one with colors that resemble traditional motifs and colors. The design is retro but I thought it would fit the project I had in mind.

1. Cut out a square of fabric.

2. Cut it into strips.

3. This is optional - embroider the piece and add beads. When done, to secure that it does not fray much, fix it with a blanket stitch around the strip

4. Fold the strip and sew both (upper) ends together.

5.  Repeat this with the other strips.

6. Line them up to see what arrangement makes the design look the best. Note that I made the central strip a little bit longer so that it protrudes / stands out from the other strips and marks the center.

7. / 8. Make tassels and add to the center and the two strips (from left and right) next to it.

9. /10. Crochet a chain / use a leather or cotton cord onto which you insert the strips of fabric. You can add tassels to the cord as a finishing touch too.

5 Lace and Asymmetrical Cardigan Ideas

Today the temperature dropped significantly reminding us all that fall is inevitably coming and as mush as I love summer, I am ready for a change.

I still haven't sorted through fall clothes to see what stays and what goes, but sorting clothes out is on the agenda for sure.  Due to the sudden chill we experienced I had to pull out a cardi, hence today's selection. A little lace paired with unusual patterns. Let the diversity take charge.

Yarn storage rearranged

I have mentioned once or twice that we are renovating the place and it has taken quite a while for everything to be finished. We are near the end, thanks God. We are waiting for the last thing to be made and that would be the book cabinets.

However, with all the changes going on, I had to relocate my "studio" which was actually in a part of my dining room transformed for the post and that concerned the yarn cabinets. I wrote about them here. Well, we disjointed one of them and my husband put it on the wall in my new studio. This one is my favorite because it holds my cotton yarn (the other is reserved for the wool and acrylic) which I use to make my jewelries and other what-nots. I managed to sort this out today and was puzzled to see how certain colors prevailed others.

I love how they all look together and they give the room a special feeling when you walk in and see them like this.

Coco & Orange - Insta feel

Coco & Orange is another vintage seller I follow on instagram. In her own words, she treats all her items respectfully and always puts her heart into everything that she chooses for her shop. And that can be witnessed from her beautifully styled photos and aesthetics which were the main reasons I was drawn to it in the first place.

Enjoy the selection I made and visit her shop for more stunning pieces.

What does your dream closet look like?

Open closet

When it comes to clothes I like them being organized at all times, everything in its own place, neatly folded and hung, and not to get bored I often rearrange the looks of our wardrobes.

How about you? What does your dream closet look like?

Personally I would love to have an open walk in closet where I would display all my vintage fabric and supplies, my heirloom blankets and linen. That would be a worthy sight!

Below I am sharing some ideas of walk in closets and storage ideas.

Hello September!

This is a special September for us.
Eva started high school today and Jacob fifth grade. Both were quite excited about the first day of school, especially Eva, understandably.  When I texted her to see how she was doing - she said everything was spectacular. I hope she feels the same every day, and to you I wish a spectacular September too!
