Popeye's Village in Malta

Yesterday, we went to Popeye's Village in Anchor Bay to bring back some memories from our childhood. We grew up with Popeye's cartoons and we quite love this funny character, so a trip to his village was a must. Sadly, we were without children and the experience would have been complete with them, because the village is the perfect place where you'd like to take your children for an exceptional and extraordinary day of fun!

When you enter, you have the village spread out in front of you, and all the colorful houses and the setting itself, makes your heart jump up a bit. At least mine did. You can see how happy I am here.

The day was filled with activities so upon entering we made it to the introduction of the Popeye story. The show they put for us was really delightful.

Afterwards we chatted a bit with the actors and took some pictures.

It was Popeye's idea for the selfie and we are glad we did it - because it turned great :)

The village is packed with authentic houses all made for the set of the Popeye movie and we loved wandering through. We also made a ton of photos (literally) so I will upload those on my flickr account when we get back home - that is - if you are interested to see more.

The village begins with Popeye's cabin.

Inside the houses there is a lot of natural light coming in, so some pictures are not clear. Sorry about this!

Olive's house is the biggest in the village but it only has two furnished rooms (shown above) - it is being redecorated currently, so the other rooms where empty.

The Village

There are a couple of houses dedicated to the production of the movie and a sort of a museum with toys, collectibles, posters, cartoons and memorabilia and inside there is a small cinema  that plays the film on repeat.

The tickets (which are 10 euros per person) include a free glass of punch, a postcard and a boat ride. The boat ride is not short as one would have assumed for a free one and we were taken to a breathtaking cave and a nice sail around the bay. Upon return you get a fabulous view of the village up front.
All in all it was an extraordinary experience as I said before. Next time I am going to post some hilarious signs they have in the village.

***
About the place: Popeye Village Malta has grown from its days as a Film Set of the 1980 Musical Production 'Popeye' into one of the major tourist attractions on the Maltese Islands filled with a number of colorful fun activities for all young and young at heart. You may remember the stunning performance of Robin Williams as Popeye and as Shelley Duvall as Olive Oyl. I highly recommend you see the film, if you haven't already.
