Here's my new Frida inspired necklace. The tutorial guides you in making the flowers and the leaves, but I also show you how to make the ribbons to hang the flower arrangement onto, if you feel like it – so this requires some light sewing.
What you need:
* sport yarn (leftover yarn is great for this project) and a steel 1.9 mm hook. Please consult hook recommendation on your yarn label if you decide on using thicker / thinner yarn.
*(optional) metal clams, metal chain, jump rings, lobster clasp, ribbon.
Used terms in American terminology: chain (ch), slip stitch (sl st), skip (sk), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), treble (tr).
Finished measurements: maker’s choice. Depending on the amount of flowers you decide to add and the size of flowers you make.
What we are going to make
- three types of flowers
- two types of leaves (+ a variation of one of them).
- a sewn ribbon (optional)
The pattern on etsy and ravelry.
There is also a small collection of scarves coming up inspired by her, so stay tuned.

Beautiful as all you do Maya. I will share this with some friends who know how to crochet, I'm sure they will love it too.
Enjoy the rest of the week!
That is so sweet of you Pili! Thank you so much!
I love this, Maya. First you showed us the inspiration and now your take on it. I'm sure Frida would have loved it as well :-)

What a lovely and creative way to use leftover yarn - beautiful!
Thank you Amalia. I wanted to make fluffier and fuller flowers, but left that for the spring headband I am planning to make.
Yes, it is. Instead of tossing those tiny skeins around :)
Thank you for stopping by!
So pretty, I love a good stash buster project.
So pretty, you are so creative and all be so nice.
Have a nice weekend
You've make me turn to brilliant colours ever since you wrote about Frida. Just something "in between", but you've made me miss vibrant colours and I had to work with them st least for a little while...
Your Frida necklace is very beautiful. Colours and flowers are all we need right now (it started snowing again...)!
Have a lovely Sunday,
Marjan
So beautiful! I love Frida too and I think your necklace really reflects her style and passionate mood! So great project, making me think to spring and summer accessories. Have a nice sunday, dear Maya!
Thank you Julia. Likewise:)
Thank you Myrica! I have an incredibly rich inspiration as a fuel :)
So glad to hear that Marjan. I also love pastels and use them a lot in my creations, but when I see a bold and vibrant color, it moves something inside me do greatly and I hold onto that impulse as a guide in my work. I simply cannot imagine my life without color. As for the snow, this year like no one before I wished for snow and enjoyed while it lasted. Enjoy your snow for the spring will be here in no time. Wishing you a lovely Sunday!
