A couple of weeks ago when I made this mixed media necklace, I simply knew I would delve on the topic more as these little projects were / are like a breath of fresh air. I am one of those persons who relaxes from crochet by tackling another crochet project and these were the intermezzo I needed between my time-consuming projects.
If you want to make something similar - here's how I did it.
You need fabric covered or ordinary buttons. The pattern for this particular pattern is for a button 2,5cm in diameter. I used sport yarn and a 1.9 mm hook.
Pattern for inner button cover
Foundation and round 1: ch5 and join to make a ring. sc6 in ring. (6)
Round 2: sc2 in all sts. (12)
Round 3: sc1 in one st., sc2 in next (18)
Round 4: ch3 and make a picot, sl st in the same st. Sk1 and sl st in the next one. Repeat this pattern around.
Sew the button onto it. Now for the outer petaled cover.
Foundation and round 1: ch5 and join to make a ring. sc6 in ring. (6)
Round 2: sc2 in all sts. (12)
Round 3: sc1 in one st., sc2 in next (18)
Round 4: repeat rnd 3 (27)
Round 5: (you work this in the same stitch) ch2, hdc2, ch2 and sl st (all into the same stitch), sk2 sts, sl st in third and repeat above pattern. Work tails. Sew this on the button.
Now, I made these into rings, for which I had adjustable rings glued at the back, but these would also be lovely as brooches too. So you can add a brooch pin and have a unique accessory.
Do let me know if you make them!

Making small crochet nests for the buttons is a great idea. One could also do large dimensional projects using the idea.
Such a lovely, creative idea - thank you for sharing.
Thank you Dagmar! I hope I am not borimg people to death :)
These are so pretty, Maya! Besides earrings and brooches, they would make such pretty fridge magnets, buttons for tufting, necklace pendants, attached to handmade greeting cards...so many possibilities!
So, so pretty, Maya. Love those crochet flowers hugging those centre buttons. So very clever!
