How to read Crochet Charts: Free Mandala Pattern

Welcome to another chart reading. This time I thought a break from my crochet routine in the shape of a mandala would be nice. Needed something quick and relaxing and again tried to use color combinations I never take into consideration. Challenging myself feels great :)

The chart I found on pinterest:

The pattern:

With yarn size and relevant hook by choice
Ch 10 and join to make ring.
Round 1: Ch3 (counts as the 1st dc) and make 23 dc in the ring. Sl st with initial chain to end.
Round 2: ch3 (counts as the 1st dc) +3, sk 1, dc in the next st. Ch 3, sk1, Dc in next st.Work this pattern around. There should be 12 dc (including the initial 3-ch). Sl st with initial chain to end.
Round 3: ch3 + 1. dc4 in the first ch-space of rnd 2. Ch 1 and dc4 in the next space. Repeat this pattern to the end of the round. In the end space dc only 3 because the initial 3-ch counts as a dc. Sl st with initial chain to end.
Round 4: (slight variation) ch 5, sc in the st between the dc sets of the round below. Repeat this pattern around. Sl st to end round.
Round 5: ch1 and in the 1st ch-space - dc3ch1, dc3, ch1 and sc over the sc st of the round below. ch1 and repeat the pattern in bold. Sl st to end it.
Round 6: ch2 and in the 1st ch-space - dc3ch1, dc3, ch1 and sc over the sc st of the round below. ch2 and repeat the pattern in bold. Sl st to end it.

I hope you like this!

Sweet little doilies!

Lovely! They would add a nice colour accent to a white table setting if used as coasters. You translate graphics into written patterns so easily! Thanks for sharing. :-)

Wonderful! You are so good in choosing colors!
This is another thing I want to make and I still have to try those special pompons of you. Where can I buy some extra time?? :-)

Haah... thank you Sigrid! I really got out of my color comfort zone with these. I steal time from my sleep and rest :)

Thank you so much for the pattern, Maya. With your help, soon I will be able to read the charts! Kisses, my friend.

I've always found it easier to read a chart than a pattern, thanks for sharing both.
