Crochet Afghans in TV Shows

 Mad Man Afghan

Have you noticed how much TV shows' interior designers love to throw in a crochet blanket or an afghan on the sofa in the show's living room?

I must admit I love that they do. And I am always on the lookout for such scenes not only in shows, but movies as well. I sometimes pause scenes as to have a better look at the stitch or pattern, lol!  I love that such crochet or knit pieces instantly give more coziness and warmth to the whole set. You immediately get the desire to curl up under one and just drift away!

Another thing that is interesting is that most of the times it is a granny square blanket. Some of the colorwork used in these is truly inspiring.

Sadly, my living room is void of such gorgeousness. Hubs loves to take naps in the living room, which honestly drives me mad, but still I would love to make a granny blanket for his naps. As a project, it has been on my bucket list for almost an eternity. We have a woolen blanket with a Native-American print, which would be more suitable for a pioneer cabin or a cottage in the mountains rather than our living room, but we love it dearly.

Do you have crocheted blankets in  your living room? Are you a fan of such blankets?

Yes I've absolutely noticed this mostly in American shows though, less so here in the UK. We are currently binging The Wire and I have even spotted some crocheted blankets in 1 or 2 episodes of that :)
I have 2 crocheted blankets in my sitting room, one on each sofa and some crocheted cushion covers too, I love them! I think you should go for it....

I'm terrible for spying things like that. We were watching a later episode of South Park where the Marsh's have Tegridy Farm and there on the back of their sofa was a granny blanket. So yup... i made a real one LOL

Afghans and blankets remind me of my childhood. All my relatives had them in their homes, and one of my Aunties had a beautiful homemade afghan over her couch. I loved it. Thank you for bringing back some lovely memories and for sharing this fun post with the Hearth and Soul Link Party, Maya.

I have noticed those afghans showing up on TV. I've wondered do they commission them to be made or do they just shop on Etsy or eBay and find them.

I always notice the handmade blankets on TV shows and movies Maya. Yes, I have a handmade crocheted blanket on my couch that I use every night while watching TV. My husbands aunt made it a long time ago. It has crazy colors of orange and brown but I love it anyways as it keeps me warm! LOL.

I just love catching glimpses of crochet in films. Recently I stumbled on Mel Gibson's Signs and waited for the scene with the crochet rug in the living room! A massive and impressive thing!

Thank you for sharing April! I would love to have a sofa blanket made by my gran. But my masterful crocheter gran only made baby blankets. To be honest, I still have the one she made for me. A wonderful heirloom!

You know Dee, I stumbled upon a blogger who writes about her freelance work for designers and works on knit and crochet pieces for films and shows. I didn't remember her name. But I am sure they hire people to make things for the film industry.
