Decorating with Doilies

Doilies always remind me of my paternal grandmother. She could masterfully whip up doilies as fragile and delicate as a spider web. She also loved showing and displaying them as much as making them. They were tastefully placed around the house to decorate certain corners and points.

That's where my love of doilies comes from. Being the oldest of her granddaughters, I had the honor of having many tablecloths and doilies made just for me, for my dowry - as she used to say. But the dear soul knew that out of us 5 girls, I was the one who appreciated, learnt and enjoyed crochet (and knitting) and that I would use and care about all my doilies passionately.

So finding new, interesting ways to use and display doilies has always been pleasurable and fulfilling for me. I have found some fabulous ideas for using crochet doilies I want to share today.

Redesign an old lampshade

Join different patterned and sized doilies for a unique tablecloth

Make a fantastic, bulletin board with a vintage feel.

In the past I made a doily necklace and a bag

I like them all, but I am partial to the table runner. I would love to see the displays that you some up with

I haven't got any spectacular doily displays. They are mostly on my dressers, under lamps and decorative jewelry boxes.

I also love doilies! I crocheted a colorful edge around some and that's also fun! Now I was planning to make a little curtain ( a bit like the tablecloth on your pictures ). Anyway, loved to read your story..
Have a nice day,

That's so interesting, I will have to try it. Thank you for visiting Sigrid!

What cool and unique ways to use doilies! I really like both the tablecloths. I made a dream catcher using a doily similar to the wall hanging but it was only one instead of a bunch, but it still looks good!

I am longing for a doily dream catcher for a while now. Hope I realize this idea someday.

Some great ideas here. I went through a doily making stage and have a stack of them to play with.
