Around the World in 80 Dishes - Macedonian Baked Beans

You know that I have a fantastic collaboration with amazing Cat from Cut Out + Keep, and this time she invited me to write about a famous traditional and national dish.

I chose to write about Tavce Gravce which  is actually Baked Beans (or literally translated: Beans  in a pot).
Find the recipe here.

The recipe features a meatless dish but to make it a feast to your palate, you can add bacon or pork ribs.

I'd love to hear how you like it if you decided to try this out.

Sounds yummy! I love beans. American baked beans have a sweet tomato sauce. I much prefer your version. :)

sounds interesting. Indian cuisine too uses lots of beans - we boil them, stir fry them, use them as sprouts or in a gravy, everything other than baking them.

Thank you Tammy! I'd love to try it with a sweet tomato sauce, though. Everything new is interesting :)

Yum! I've loved everything I've ever eaten in the Balkans and I love bean-based dishes (the product of an Anglo-Indian upbringing, heh), so I will definitely be bookmarking this for future use!

I've looked at the recipe Maya. We have a very similar dish, my father makes a wonderful winter soup out of it with bits of sausage thrown in.
