How is your Monday so far?
For me Monday turned out to be a yarn-winding day!
I received a large shipment of cotton batik yarn in 1 kilo-skeins. There isn't much interest with buyers for large skeins, so I have to make them in small batches - preferably 50gr cakes.
This is rather a tedious job, because I have a hand winder, and although winding goes fast, I am contemplating buying an electric yarn-winder.
Nevertheless, all these colors brighten my mood, so wind-wind I'll go!

I've purchased two yarn winders and they work great but half way thru using the yarn on a project, the cake falls apart! It doesn't matter if it's thin or thick yarn, it just falls apart and WOW what a mess that is! Do you experience that with yours?
To be honest, they do collapse but when I am near the end. That is beacuse I always take the inside /inner tail from the cake to work with. I've never tried with the outer tail, though... What tail do you use Dee?
I use the outer tail. The cakes are so pretty and neat but I don't like that they collapse. Would love to see you over at some of my parties. A new one started today but I have two more that are still going on.
I have the same yarn-winder and yes, it's a bit tedious, but the result is worth it! No wonder they're called "cakes", they look yummy. ;-)
How do you know when the cake is 50gr without taking it out from the winder?
Maybe try with the inner one to see how it goes?
I love your parties and I will join them again. The yarn shop consumes all of my time, and I haven't been active in the blog world for several months now. I am slowly picking up, so you'll see me more often. 😊😘
I measure the skein at the beginning, do some winding, measure the skein again, and deduct the number. I do so until the skein measures -50 gr. Maybe there is an easier way, but this one works for me.

My nan had one of those hand winders and in the school holidays my brother and I would get to help her wind skeins of yarn. Sometimes we would have to be the one holding the skein with our hands apart (very tiring) but something we were lucky and she would let us do the winding! What fun!!!
I've not seen a yarn-winder before so that was interesting to me (as all yarn related things are). So impressed with you and your shop, dear Maya, hope it is going well.

Lol Julie! My gran didn't have a winder at all, so I was one! 🤣
Just like you, standing there with the arms apart, praying to God she didn't have a lot of skeins to do!
Thanks Amalia! It's going quite well, but eats up all my energy! 😊 I wish I had an electric one and will most probably invest in one.
